Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is America’s most prestigious academic honourary society. Phi Beta Kappa London is an association for members who reside in London and the UK.

Lifelong learning and friendship in London and the UK.

Established in 2014, the mission of Phi Beta Kappa London is to enhance the usefulness of Phi Beta Kappa membership in London and the UK. This is achieved through a commitment to lifelong learning, both as a friend of likeminded organisations and as an initiator of opportunities for discourse and debate, as well as a spirit of friendship and welcome to our members, associates and visiting Phi Betes from the US.

Phi Beta Kappa London is an affiliated group of Phi Beta Kappa, America’s most prestigious academic honourary society. Many of our members come to the UK for graduate study, but some are simply returning home after study in the US. Some of our members are involved with leading British institutions, including the BBC, the British Academy, University College London, the University of Cambridge and the Worshipful Company of Educators to name but a few.

Because of the unique nature of Phi Beta Kappa London, we primarily act as a hub for connecting members with other members, as well as events that align with the broader aims of Phi Beta Kappa, although we do occasionally host our own events. Find out how you can get involved, or contact us at members@pbkldn.org.

Get Involved

Are you a Phi Beta Kappa member here in London or the UK? Or are you about to move to study, work or live? Find out more how you can get involved.

Phi Beta Kappa’s name originated from the motto "Love of learning is the guide of life," a phrase the founders derived from the Greek Φιλοσοφία Βίου Κυβερνήτης.

The three Greek letters ΦΒΚ are inscribed on the signature gold key that is today a nationally recognized credential signifying academic achievement.
